Reward rate

The rate used to calculate cashback, points, or miles on qualifying spend.

Definition

A reward rate is the stated earning rate for a card. It may be shown as cashback percentage, points per AED, miles per AED, or another reward currency.

Why it matters

Reward rates are only useful when read with caps, exclusions, annual fees, and redemption value.

Example

A card may earn 1 mile per AED on general spend and a different rate for airline bookings or foreign currency spend.

Important caveat

The final value depends on bank terms and how points or miles are redeemed.
