Glossary
Merchant category code
A payment network code that helps classify a merchant by business type.
Definition
A merchant category code, often called MCC, is used by payment networks and banks to classify a merchant. Reward eligibility can depend on this classification.
Why it matters
A shop that feels like groceries, dining, or travel may not always be classified that way by the bank or network.
Example
A delivery app transaction may not always be treated the same as a restaurant transaction for rewards.
Important caveat
Tilla cannot see your transaction-level MCC. Check official bank terms and your statement if eligibility is unclear.
